Excellent Tips To Take Your Cooking To The Next Level

Few things are more enjoyable than sitting down to a well-cooked meal at home.  Few things are more appreciated.  Here are some tips to help you raise your game a level in cooking.  You will find tips here on technique, ingredients, cookware, ethnic dishes, time-saving methods and much more.  Bon apetit!

Always taste and season your food as you cook it, and do not depend solely on the recipe's instructions for how much or how little of a seasoning to add. Also, if you over-salt one component of your dish, you can adjust the amount you add to other layers or ingredients to balance out the flavor.

When adding flour or cornstarch to drippings for making gravy, whisk the ingredient into a bit of water to create a slurry, and pour this liquid into the pan, instead of just dumping in the dry ingredient. This will prevent unappealing lumps in your gravy, and it makes it easier to add just a bit of thickener at a time.

Do not flip your food too often. Flipping not only affects the sear on a piece of meat, but it can cause delicate foods to break and may cause the breading to slip off of pan-fried foods. Wait until the food slips easily off the pan or the food is halfway through its cooking time so that you only need to flip it once.

Best Meal

Reduce the stress of cooking for a lot of people by preparing the ingredients the day before or earlier in the day. This helps prevent burning certain dishes because your attention is on preparing another dish. When you prepare the ingredients beforehand, you can focus all your attention on cooking the best meal possible.

Healthy

Dark leafy greens are super healthy, but preparing them can be a pain. Removing the tough stems can be tedious. To make it simple, fold the leaf in half lengthwise and break the stem out from the middle. Otherwise use a knife to cut the stem out of the folded leaf. Unfold the leaf and you have a perfectly de-stemmed green.

Try frozen grapes as an easy and refreshing snack. Like a healthy miniature popsicle, grapes taste great when frozen. As an added bonus you can stock up when they are on sale and they will keep for a long time in your freezer without going bad. Just remove them from the stem, rinse them, pat dry, and place in a freezer-safe container.

Use butter in your cooking instead of margarine. It naturally mixes better in your recipes and contains dairy products rather than vegetable oil so contains health benefits as well. Dairy products are higher in healthy fats and will provide more flavor and natural texture to your food than margarine will.

If you want to make a healthy, lower-fat salad dressing that is still creamy and rich, substitute Greek yogurt for at least half of the fatty mayonnaise, and fold it in well.  The trimmed down dressing will still be thick and delicious, and you will save a lot of unnecessary calories.

These tips have served up a smorgasbord of new delights for you to attempt in the kitchen.  They have suggested ways to improve your skills and get great results expeditiously and more economically.  With these in hand you can make the food you serve your family more delicious and exciting than ever.
